Book Reading #28: Coming of Age in Samoa

Reference Information:
Title: Coming of Age in Samoa
Author: Margaret Mead
Editors: Williams Morrow and Company (1928)
Summary: In the ninth chapter of Coming of Age in Samoa, Mead focuses on the personalities of the Samoan people, and their attitudes toward each other. In particular, Mead discusses the concept of Musu, which is someone abstaining or being unwilling. In Samoan culture, Musu is treated with the utmost respect, and is not questioned.
Discussion: One again, this chapter was fairly interesting. The Samoa culture surprises me. Even in our own culture we don't always treat people abstaining from things with respect, so I find this part of Samoan culture very admirable.
